Elf Cosmetics Best and Worst
Elf just might be my favorite brand in the makeup industry. They make affordable, high quality products available in a huge range of colors. But like any brand, they have a few products that couldn’t meet my expectations. Here are my 5 favorite and 5 least favorite Elf products! (Not including their brushes.)
Best #5: Elf Under Eye Conceal and Highlighter
The concealer on this is the perfect highlighter! I love it! The highlighter looks a little crazy if applied to heavily, but this product overall does exactly what it’s supposed to. It blends nicely, is the perfect shade for me, and does highlight any areas of my face!
Best #4 Elf Cream Eyeliner
This black liner it my favorite eyeliner so far. It is a dark black, the perfect consistency to work with, and really does stay in place without smudging all day. I apply it with the elf angled brush to get the thick line I like, so this is a perfect eyeliner for me.
Best #3 Elf Matte Lip Color
These colors are so vibrant, and it has a beautiful finish. It’s not quite matte, but more of a satin/ semi-matte. It is really nice to have the color in a pencil shape, and the built in sharpener is nice too. I have the color Rich Red, which is a slightly berry red, and it so nice in the summer! I also have Dash of Pink, which is a hot pink that when applied lightly is a beautiful shade.
Best #2 Elf Baked Highlighter
This highlighter is a beautiful shimmer for the face. It has slight yellow undertones, but the sparkles aren’t chunky and it glides on the face. It is really easy to blend, which makes it perfect for beginners, and I don’t notice much fallout. I have the shade Moonlight Pearls.
Best #1 Elf Smudge Pot
I can talk about this product all day, but I’ll spare you guys. It is a beautiful cream shadow. It blends without any struggle and is insanely pigmented. They are shimmery rather than sparkly, which makes for a smoother application and look. My favorite shade is Crusin’ Chic, which is a beautiful brown and gold metallic color.
Worst #5 Elf Makeup Remover Pen
This is a great concept, and for the first 5- 10 uses it works like a charm. It is a felt tip “pen” with makeup remover inside, and it can be used for precise removal of makeup. I liked to use it for eye shadow, liner, or mascara mistakes. But the tip gets black and dirty very quickly, and then it just smears makeup around instead of removing it.
Worst #4 Elf Mascaras
These mascaras are a really good pigmentation, but they are super runny in consistency, and they don’t dry fast enough. They definitely do not hold a curl, and the brushes are nothing special. I’ve also heard they sting a lot of peoples eyes. I’ve tried the Waterproof Lengthening and Volumizing, the Lengthening and Defining, and the 3-in-1 Mascaras.
Worst #3 Elf Lip Exfoliator
This lip exfoliator worked well for the first few uses, and smells amazing. The beads in it are very small, and it is very moisturizing. However, as the lip balm part of it is used, the beads stick around, making it very rough and uncomfortable. Also, I can’t stand the taste, which sound funny, but it’s true. I use the clear one, but I think they have some other types out now.
Worst #2 Elf Daily Hydration Moisturizer
This is part of their relatively new skincare line, which I think is an attempt at a dupe for the Benefit skin care line. I’m a huge fan of the Benefit line, but this moisturizer didn’t seem like the Benefit one at all. It didn’t feel moisturizing on my skin, and it broke me out. It was a big no from me.
Worst #1 Elf Blush
These blushes have a lot of problems. First, it applies extremely different then it looks in the package. It is way lighter and washed out. It is blotchy on cheeks and noses. And there appears to be sparkles in it. Not at all flattering in my opinion. I have tickled pink and twinkle pink.
